I will be doing something a little different in this comparison. Normally I would compare two pieces of work to each other, but here I will be doing three. I will be comparing the SpongeBob episode Little Yellow Book, the Family Guy episode And I'm Joyce Kinney and the GoAnimate video Caillou Embarrasses His Dad/Grounded; which all involve someone embarrassing someone else for revenge.
Little Yellow Book involves Squidward reading SpongeBob’s diary to get back at him for being annoying. I know a lot of people thought SpongeBob deserved what he got in this episode and while I do respect their opinions, I have to disagree because SpongeBob, for the most part, has no intention of hurting Squidward and did nothing wrong in this episode. I also found it sweet when SpongeBob forgave him; however, I will admit that SpongeBob should have not left his diary unattended or shown his other diary to Squidward. As well as SpongeBob, I did feel bad for Squidward because I felt that taking away his home, hooking him to a middle aged handcuff, and pelting him was a bit extreme.
And I'm Joyce Kinney is about Lois meeting a news reporter by the name of Joyce Kinney. Joyce tells everyone about Lois’s part in a porno for the time Lois pulled a mean prank on her back in high school. I am honestly conflicted about Lois and can’t decide weather to feel bad for her or not. She bullied Joyce in a brutal way, but she did tell Joyce she was sorry. A good question would be if Lois really and truly felt terrible? I honestly feel like Joyce did not know what she was doing and she could have been living with emotional scars.
As for Caillou Embarrasses His Dad/Grounded we have Caillou making a grounded video out of Boris for making a grounded video out of him. Boris pretty much cyber-bullied his own kid and felt no remorse. To add insult to injury, we are expected to feel sorry for him. Boris was far from being innocently insensitive and was worse than Lois and the answer to weather I feel bad for Boris or not is a big fat HELL NO! Just like Joyce, Caillou has also been abused, except, in my opinion, a lot worse. (I’m not saying that Joyce’s treatment was not pretty bad, but you get the idea.) The only way you would know how hurt Caillou has been is if you watched videos of him getting assaulted. Just like Squidward, Caillou also received a harsh punishment, except it was being grounded for a million years.
In Little Yellow Book, I found Mr. Krabs’ afro, SpongeBob acting like a chicken, and him dancing in his underwear to be funny. In And I'm Joyce Kinney, I did cry over the kid with cerebral palsy and did take offense to how Lois showed the porno at the church (don’t ask why), but I did like the intro and I found it funny when Peter tried to give Consuella his phone number and when Bonnie, Peter, and Stewie reacted to Lois’s secret. In Caillou Embarrasses His Dad/Grounded I found Caillou breaking the fourth wall and Doris saying that her ears were on fire from Caillou’s crying to be funny.
Out of SpongeBob, Lois and Boris, SpongeBob was the most sympathetic victim and hero. Lois and Boris were cruel in a way, yet SpongeBob was innocent. As for Squidward, Joyce, and Caillou; I will have to admit I have a fair share of reasons to feel bad for them. In my opinion, Little Yellow Book is not as bad as people make it out to be, as mentioned in one of my Underrated Animation reviews; And I’m Joyce Kinney could have been a little better if Lois did not show the porno in a church (I’m a Catholic, so please understand); and Caillou Embarrasses His Dad/Grounded was funny, but I found it painful to watch because I really hate Boris and this video was telling us to root for him.
If you disagree with anything that I typed, I respect your opinion.
